Is Minesweeper a game of skill or luck?
Primarily skill. The vast majority of any board can be solved through pure logical deduction. Pattern recognition, chording speed, and board-reading are all learnable and improvable skills that separate beginners from experts. The luck element appears only in forced 50/50 situations where two mine arrangements are logically identical. These are unavoidable in standard Minesweeper. Expert players minimize exposure to them by clearing as much of the board as possible before a 50/50 emerges. On Minesweeper.now, No-Guessing mode generates boards where every cell is logically solvable, removing luck entirely.
