Expert Minesweeper Strategy
At 20.6% mine density, Expert boards regularly produce situations where no single number solves anything on its own. The skill that separates Expert players is combining constraints: two overlapping numbers often pin down a mine that neither could locate alone. The 1-2 pattern and its mirror are the most common examples and are worth drilling until they are automatic.
Scan ahead while the board resolves. Top Expert players are already reading the next section of the frontier while their current chord lands - the cursor should never be waiting for your eyes. This pipelining is why elite solvers maintain 2.0+ 3BV/s on a board with 480 cells.
Accept that some Standard-mode Expert boards end in a genuine 50/50. When you have verified there is no information anywhere on the board that resolves the cell - including the remaining mine count - guess immediately rather than burning seconds confirming what you already know. If forced guesses frustrate you, the No-Guessing mode removes them entirely.

Expert Minesweeper FAQ
What are the Expert Minesweeper board settings?
Expert Minesweeper is played on a 30x16 grid with 99 mines - 480 cells at about 20.6% density. It is the classic competitive configuration used for world records and ranked play on Minesweeper.now.
What is a good Expert Minesweeper time?
Finishing at all is an achievement for new Expert players - the win rate is far lower than other difficulties. Under 150 seconds is solid, under 100 seconds is strong club level, and under 60 seconds is elite. World-class solves run in the 30-40 second range.
Why is Expert the competitive standard in Minesweeper?
Expert is large enough that luck mostly averages out and dense enough that every solving technique matters - patterns, chording, counting, and board-reading speed all show up in the final time. That makes Expert times the fairest single-number comparison between players.
