What is No-Guessing mode in Minesweeper?
No-Guessing mode accepts only boards its solver can complete through deduction. It removes forced 50/50 choices while keeping the selected grid size and mine count.
What does No-Guessing mean?
A Standard board can reach a position where two mine layouts satisfy every visible clue. No-Guessing filters out boards that reach such a dead end during solver verification. Every accepted board has a deduction path from the protected opening to completion.
How are No-Guessing boards made?
- Generate a board around the protected first click.
- Run the site's deduction solver against it.
- Reject it if the solver needs to guess.
- Serve a board only after it passes.
The selected Beginner, Intermediate or Expert dimensions and mine count remain the same; the arrangement is what gets filtered.
How does No-Guessing differ from Standard?
| Feature | Standard | No-Guessing |
|---|---|---|
| Number rules | Same | Same |
| Grid and mine presets | Same | Same |
| Forced guesses | Possible | Filtered out |
| Rankings | Standard table | Separate NG table |
Times should be compared within the same mode because the board-generation rules differ. The site does not claim that one mode always produces faster or slower boards.
Is No-Guessing useful for practice?
It gives clear feedback about deduction: if a run ends on an accepted board, a logical continuation existed. Review the position with the pattern guide or solver, then retry the relevant pattern. This does not make every board easy; it removes the specific need for an unsupported guess.
Where are No-Guessing results ranked?
They appear on the separate No-Guessing rankings, not the Standard rankings. For a direct comparison, read No-Guessing versus Standard, or play No-Guessing Minesweeper.
Use a stuck position as a review signal
On a verified No-Guessing board, being stuck means a logical move still exists. Recheck satisfied numbers, edge reductions, overlapping groups, and cells outside the current area before clicking. The generator guarantees solvability, not that the next step is obvious.
