Infinite Minesweeper

The board has no outer edge. Every coordinate is generated from one seed, so revisiting a location or sharing the seed reproduces the same minefield.

What Infinite Minesweeper changes

Classic Minesweeper has a fixed rectangle and ends after every safe cell is revealed. Infinite Minesweeper removes the outer boundary. The visible grid is only a viewport into a coordinate-based world that can continue in positive or negative directions. There is no final cell and therefore no conventional completion time.

The familiar clue rule is unchanged: a revealed number counts mines in its eight neighboring coordinates. Flags remain player notes. Opening a mine ends the current run, while safe reveals increase the explored-cell score shown above the board.

How to explore the endless board

  1. Use Reveal for normal opening actions or switch to Flag before tapping suspected mines.
  2. Use the arrow controls to move the viewport ten coordinates at a time. Panning changes what is visible but does not erase revealed cells or flags.
  3. Select the home control to return to the area around the origin.
  4. Choose Copy seed link to share the same world. New world creates a different seed and resets progress.

Coordinates can be negative because the origin is simply a reference point, not a corner. When you revisit a previously explored location during the same session, its state is restored. Very distant areas are generated only when needed.

How a seed creates an unlimited field

The game does not allocate an actually infinite grid. It combines the world seed with each cell's x and y coordinates and passes that input through a deterministic hash. The result decides whether that coordinate contains a mine. The same seed and coordinates always produce the same answer, so the browser can recalculate untouched areas instead of storing an unlimited map.

A shared seed reproduces the minefield, not another person's clicks. Revealed cells, flags, score and viewport remain local to each browser session. Because the seed is visible and reproducible, Infinite mode is for exploration and friendly comparisons rather than accepted ranked records.

Strategy on a board without edges

Do not treat the edge of the viewport as a wall. Covered cells continue beyond it, so a familiar edge pattern is valid only when a genuine rule boundary exists; Infinite mode has none. Pan far enough to inspect the full neighborhood of any clue before making a deduction.

  • Keep more than one open frontier so a blocked area does not force an immediate guess.
  • Use flags as temporary notes, especially near the boundary of the current viewport.
  • Return to unresolved regions after opening another direction; new clues can connect constraints that looked isolated.
  • Track coordinates when sharing an interesting formation so another player can navigate to the same area.
  • Remember that there is no global remaining-mine counter on an endless field.

Scoring, loss and fairness

The score counts safe cells revealed in the current world. It is not comparable to Beginner, Intermediate or Expert completion times because those boards have fixed dimensions, fixed mine totals and a finish condition. A favorable region can produce a long run and an unfavorable frontier can force risk, so the page deliberately labels Infinite mode as unranked.

The generator is deterministic, but deterministic does not mean no-guess. Some frontiers may have multiple mine arrangements consistent with all visible clues. When that happens, expand another frontier if possible or accept that an exploratory run can involve risk.

Infinite Minesweeper questions

Can the browser run out of board?

The coordinate system is practically bounded by JavaScript's reliable integer range and available browser memory, but ordinary play will not approach that limit. Only visited state is retained, so the game does not create billions of cells in advance.

Does sharing a seed reveal where the mines are?

Anyone with the link can reproduce the world and could inspect it through repeated play. Treat seed links as open practice challenges, not secret competitive boards.

Is Infinite mode available offline?

The main offline page provides fixed seeded boards and a cached game shell. Infinite mode may continue after its assets are cached, but Offline Minesweeper is the documented connection-free experience.

For fixed board goals, play Expert Minesweeper. To compare other rule changes, use the Minesweeper variants directory.
